City Sharebacks

Join us for food, drinks and merriment as we showcase and celebrate the work that our National Street Service Volunteers completed in the spring. Volunteers have been working across the city to change the way we talk about our streets and public spaces. During this event, we will share the work they have done, what we have learned and how we can move forward together to make Philadelphia streets a better place for everyone. Please join us to be part of the conversation.

2018 Summer Grants

We are offering ten grants of between $5 and $500 in support of National Street Service participants who want to build ‘street experiments’ exploring how to make local streets better on behalf of their communities.

Streets are more than a path for people and goods to get from A to B.

They are also public space - a place to relax, meet, and enjoy life. In fact, streets make up roughly 80% of the public space in US cities.

But right now, most streets aren't that enjoyable for anyone...

The street experience is not enjoyable for anyone who uses it

Our goal is to make the streets safer and more enjoyable for everyone who uses them.

What if Streets reflected the things we care about most in our cities?

What if Streets helped us -

Our streets carry and honor our history - the people, places and moments that have shaped them.

Beautiful streets show a commitment to making a place enjoyable and welcoming to all.

A street that feels safe is a street where we  can slow down, relax and connect with others.

Here's how we can build better streets -

Street Stories

What does it mean for streets to be better for everyone? Stories give us the answer, by highlighting problems and needs which may be different from our own. Explore, share and add your own street stories so we can understand what better streets mean together.

National Street Service Cities program

City volunteers and City Leads choose work that matters to them; whether that is making people feel welcome with more places to rest on the street, safer streets for people who walk or bike, or being a voice of the community and sharing ideas with local officials.

A great street is more than just a place to put cars.

It's a space for people.

It belongs to the people.

Anyone who hopes for better streets can have a voice in how we build them.
